Bikini Makes The Scooter

Magda Sayeg Crochet Scooter
This is a case of clothes makes the man, or in these photos, the bikini makes the scooter. Both photos are from Magda Sayeg, an artist who knits. When you have a look at her site and blog, you'd almost think it's a mad cartoon character who knits whatever she sees. She's knitted benches, buses, bridges, stairs, railings, walls, you name it, it's been knitted.

So it's no surprise she has also knitted scooters

Time to start thinking about Christmas presents. Only three weeks, so you'll need to start shopping.

We'll be showing you interesting Christmas gift ideas over these next few weeks, hopefully with links and prices. First up is KTM with an interesting gift that can not be used on your motorcycle: a KTM audio headphone.

You can use it with any 3.5mm compatible audio device (MP3, CD player, iPhone, etc).

Goodyear Vases Brazil
Goodyear logo
Here's a nice and a so-so print advertisement from Goodyear tires made in Brazil. The first one speaks to me, showing you why a Goodyear tire will keep you in your trajectory without hitting the vases. The second one is like the first, but doesn't really speak to me. Made by the Y&R PR agency in Brazil. Clever images though... ...

France: President Sarkozy Does Not Like Bikers

Breathalyzers bag
President Nicolas Sarkozy has last week declared war on many things, but most importantly, on motorcycle riders.

He has announced several drastic, and often stupid, measures, like mandatory breathalyzers in every car in France starting next spring..

But the worst was his statement on motorcycle riders. He's convinced that bikers are the reason so many people die on the French roads. He calls them "Human Bombs"!!

Know You Alcohol Riding Limits! There Is An App For That

Alcootel testing
Alcootel smartphone app
Knowing whether you are at the legal limit to ride your motorcycle is quite easy if you have this app.

Made by the French insurance company MAAF, it'll ask you a few questions, and then tell you if you can get on your motorcycle. Available for a large variety of smartphone, and on their web site.

Or you could just blow into your mobile phone, and it'll tell you you're drunk (or you need mints).

The Netherlands: Happy Sinterklaas

Posted: 05 Dec 2011 04:00 AM PST

Sinterklaas on a motorcycle
It's Sinterklaas (Sint Nikolaas) back in my old country, the Netherlands, a time that gifts are exchanged, and pranks are played. It's a typical Dutch happening, with, like at Christmas, families gather and exchange, often funny, gifts.

Poems are read, and Sinterklaas, a "wise" old man who lives in Spain and is surrounded by black (Moors) helpers, gives good children the gifts, and bad children are taken away in their big bags.

Normally, Sinterklaas comes riding into town on a big white stallion, but he has been spotted on a motorcycle once or twice.

Electric Motorcycles: The Case For KLD Energy Technologies

KLD Motor Stator Blocks
Electric motorcycles and scooters are becoming better and better; faster, more range and cheaper. The last Eicma motorcycle exhibition showed that.

But electric engines in motorcycles is a "new" technology (though they have been there for decades). While still many manufacturers use "older" technology, something that has been available and unchanged for generations, one company is making a new type electric engine for motorcycles and scooter.

That company is the Austin, Texas based KLD Energy Technologies. Engine, batteries and controller are all designed in-house with new, much more efficient technology, and reduced owner cost.

Here's an overview of what KLD can do for the motorcycle world.

Switzerland Road Tax 2012 Sticker
Riding your motorcycle in Switzerland without the annual motorway tax sticker is going to cost you dearly. Even as a foreigner, and even if you are only on the motorway system for 10 minutes, you need to pay the CHF40.

But starting today, if you get caught riding without the tax sticker, the fine is now double... from CHF100 to CHF200 (some $220).

So be aware...
